A few days ago the demolition crew at Tiger Stadium began to destroy the broadcast booth at Tiger Stadium. The home of Ty Tyson, Harry Heilmann, Van Patrick, George Kell, Ray Lane, Al Kaline, Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey is all but gone.
The video footage below documents the final moments of the famous broadcast booth that was considered the closest to the action in all of baseball history. During the 1984 World Series, Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully said, “I know the booth at old Ebbets Field was considered close, but we’re practically peaking over [San Diego Padres’ cather] Kennedy’s shoulder!”
Of all the parts of the stadium that have been leveled, watching the broadcast booth come down, for me, was the hardest to watch.
